Lessons

Thank you for your interest in learning piano with me! On this page you can find information regarding my lessons and what you can expect from me on the first day.

My rate is $25 for 30 minutes and can be paid by e-transfer or cheque.

Note: The first four lessons will be considered a “trial period” where we can get a feel for whether I’ll be a good fit for you. Lessons can be terminated at any time during this trial period.

My Recommendations

I personally think it’s best to start learning piano around the age of seven or eight, however I have taught several students around the age of five and had fun doing so! Some students have a real knack for music and will pick it up quickly at a young age, while others might need a bit more time to grow and develop their skills. At this time, I am not currently accepting students below the age of five, however there are likely other studios in the area that can accommodate your needs.

Supplies You Will Need:

  • A three-ringed binder to keep sheet music in

  • A music book (I am happy to provide recommendations and links on where to purchase them)

  • A bag for carrying books

  • Pencils (optional, as I’ll have writing utensils in the studio)

In Person Lessons

In person lessons take place in my studio and are half an hour. Lesson structure varies depending on the age and skill level of the student. The most typical lessons for young students involve spending the first fifteen minutes working on a song, and the last fifteen minutes doing a music-related activity or game. For older students, more time is allocated to working on songs.

Lessons in person are my preferred method of teaching—so much can be lost through a computer screen! However, recent events have made this more challenging. Below, you can find information regarding online lessons.

Online Lessons

I do provide online lessons to those families who are uncomfortable with learning in person. It is required that the student be old enough to read and be familiar with the basics of piano. If they are beginners, I may also ask to have a parent present to help clear up confusion that may occur “between screens.”

If a student must self-isolate due to illness or while awaiting COVID testing, online lessons are available to provide another means of learning!

Please contact me with any questions or concerns regarding online lessons.

What to Expect on Your First Day

So you’ve decided to start taking piano lessons? Great! Here’s what you can expect when you come to see me:

I will be wearing a mask, for your safety, and I ask you to please wear one too. I will need a minute to sanitize the piano and common surfaces, but once that is done, I’ll be ready to welcome you inside!

I like to get to know new people, so I’ll probably have a lot of questions! I’ll want to know what kind of music you like, what your favourite colour is and what you like to do in your spare time, so I can make your lessons as fun as possible. If you’re shy, that’s ok! You don’t have to answer my questions if you don’t want to. I do talk a lot, but I want to hear from you! Feel free to take the first few minutes of your lesson to tell me about your day or how you’re feeling. Then we can get started!

Note for parents:

Please let me know if your child has allergies or dietary restrictions, as I may give out treats as prizes or before holidays. (Small items may be offered as an alternative.)
